DZ는 의자에 앉아 몸을 비트는 무의식적 움직임을 극적인 감정 표현으로 확장하는 인터랙티브 오브제입니다.
DZ 위에서의 움직임은 하나의 메시지가 됩니다. DZ는 사용자의 감정을 증폭하고, 주변과의 상호작용을 유도하며, 공간 속에서 새로운 방식의 대화를 만들어냅니다.
DZ의 초창기 프로토타입, DZ-Milan Edition은 사람들이 의자에 앉아 있을 때 무의식적으로 골반을 비트는 행동에 주목했습니다. 이 움직임은 단순한 습관이 아니라, 지루함이라는 특정한 감정의 표현이었습니다. 우리는 이 지루함을 즐거움으로 바꾸고 싶었습니다. 이를 위해 얇은 플레이트들을 층층이 쌓고, 플레이트들을 고무줄로 연결해 회전할 수 있는 의자를 만들었습니다. 고무줄의 탄성 덕분에 의자를 돌린 후 발을 떼면 놀이기구처럼 짜릿한 반동과 함께 원래 자리로 되돌아오는 특성을 지녔습니다. 또한, 의자가 비틀리는 순간 평평하게 쌓여 있던 플레이트가 나선형으로 펼쳐지면서 숨은 면이 드러나는 구조를 만들었습니다. 우리는 이 공간에 사용자를 놀리는 ‘밈’(예: ↑ This guy is so hot)을 숨겨, 예상치 못한 유쾌함을 더했습니다.
DZ는 조립과 분해가 간편한 모듈형 구조로 설계되었습니다. 플레이트를 구멍에 맞추어 기둥에 끼우는 단순한 구조를 지니고 있으며, 플레이트의 경우 표준 부품을 활용해 손으로 쉽게 조립하고 해체할 수 있습니다. 또한, 플레이트와 조인트 디자인은 다양한 소재를 적용할 수 있도록 설계되었습니다. 아크릴, 알루미늄, 종이, 니트 등 사용자의 취향에 따라, 혹은 표현하고 싶은 감정에 맞춰 자유롭게 커스터마이징할 수 있는, 높은 확장성을 가진 디자인입니다.
DZ is an interactive object that transforms the unconscious movement of twisting one’s body while seated, into a dramatic expression of emotion. On DZ, movements become messages. It amplifies the user’s emotions, encourages interaction with the surroundings, and opens up new forms of dialogue within a space.
The first prototype of DZ, DZ-Milan Edition, explored the unconscious act of twisting the pelvis while seated. We recognized that this movement wasn’t just a simple habit but an expression of a specific emotion—boredom. Our goal was to transform boredom into enjoyment. To achieve this, we stacked thin plates and vertically ****connected them with elastic bands, creating a chain-like structure that formed a rotatable chair. The elasticity of the bands allowed the chair to snap back to its original position with a thrilling rebound—much like an amusement ride—when the user twisted and released their feet. As the chair rotated, the neatly stacked plates unfurled into a spiral, revealing hidden surfaces beneath. We used these spaces to write playful messages or memes (e.g., ↑ This guy is so hot), adding an element of unexpected humor.
DZ is designed with a modular structure that is easy to assemble and disassemble.
Plates are inserted into columns by aligning with holes, and the plates utilize standard components that can be easily assembled and disassembled by hand.
This simple yet flexible system allows for material experimentation—acrylic, aluminum, paper, knit, and more—enabling users to customize DZ according to their emotions or aesthetic preferences.
