WMDYWTL01 — fio press

Åbäke의 “wmdywtl? (which mirror do you want to lick?)” 프로젝트에 참여하여 ‘대체 현실’을 키워드로 작업을 진행했습니다. fio만의 ‘대체 현실’을 찾아가는 과정에서 ‘오혜진’ 디자이너와 스튜디오 ‘그리드’를 인터뷰하며 작업의 주제가 될 재미있는 포인트를 발견합니다. 바로, ‘우리는 모두 과거의 후회스러운 상황을 끊임없이 복기하며 무수히 많은 대안 세계를 창조하고 있다는 사실’입니다. 이를 바탕으로 fio는 ‘아니,’ 라는 작업을 제작합니다.

‘아니,’ 작업 속 기계 팔은 후회스러운 과거가 담긴 문장을 끊임없이 적어나갑니다. 한 문장이 완성되면, 다시 그 위에 다음 문장을 겹겹이 쌓습니다. 문장이 거듭될수록, 내용은 ‘덜’ 후회스러운 방향으로 조금씩 변주되며, 이내 처음에 쓰인 문장은 조금씩 보정된 다른 문장들에 의해 가려집니다. 이는 우리가 바꾸고 싶은 과거를 현재로 불러와 머릿속에서 수많은 대안 세계를 변주해내는 과정과 닮아있습니다.

Participating in Åbäke‘s “wmdywtl? (which mirror do you want to lick?)” project, fio worked with the keyword ’alternative realities.‘ During the exploration of ’alternative realities,‘ fio interviewed designer ‘Hezin O’ and ‘Studio Grid’, discovering an intriguing theme: ’We all continually revisit regretful past situations, creating countless alternative worlds.‘ Based on this idea, fio created the piece “Nah,”

In ”Nah,“ a robotic arm incessantly writes sentences filled with past regrets. Once a sentence is completed, the next sentence is layered on top. As the sentences accumulate, they gradually transform into less regretful versions, eventually covering the original sentences with slightly revised ones. This process mirrors how we bring the past into the present, mentally creating numerous variations of alternative worlds.
